The Night Before

The Night Before – written by G D Sweeney
Like a battle cry the alarm bells shoot like knives
And it hits him to the very core
You open one eye and you struggle to remind yourself
What it is you woke up for.
You sink into you bed as you realize your dread
And you start to sweat
You had a few to drink and you think you’ve done some things
That you might regret on the night before
You lie there very still and phone ring brings a chill
It’s a number that you don’t recall
You read the message twice
It says ‘thank you for last night…you were truly wonderful
You sink into you bed as you realize your dread
And you start to sweat
You had a few to drink and you think you’ve done some things
That you might regret on the night before
Oooore ooooore Oooore ooooore Oooore ooooore
Ooooore Oooore ooooore on the night before
There’s an image coming through of a woman dressed in blue
You can see her face but not her name
In the mirror bold and bright in her red lipstick handwriting
She signed it with kiss ‘Love Jane’
You sink into you bed pull the covers on your head
And you really sweat
You had a few to drink and you think you’ve done some things
That you might regret on the night before
You had a few to drink and you think you’ve done some things
That you might regret on the night before
You had a few to drink and you think you’ve done some things
That you might regret on -the night before.

Livin' is Killing Me

Livin' is Killing me – written by G D Sweeney
When life’s is good.. it’s the greatest drug
But when I get down I need a pick me up
My mama says “boy you know you drink too much”
You need to quit your smoking and all that stuff
I’ve been in every kind of drinking den
But I couldn’t tell ye where or when for sure
All the empty bottles like fallen solders on the floor
My tyres are all pumped and I’m going strong
But underneath the bonnet there’s a tickin bomb
My engine can’t handle this road no more
my fuel consumptions is really staring to soar
I’ve been in every kind of drinking den
But I couldn’t tell ye where or when for sure
All the empty bottles like fallen solders on the floor
I need a little something to soften the blows
Its the only way to dull the pain a fella knows
I haven’t died yet but I’m getting close
Lord I’m ready and willin…this living is killing me
Lord I’ve had my filling…living is killing me
I’ve played in every honky tonk for miles around
I like to wet my whistle when the lights go down
Old Jack Daniels is a friend of mine.
Me and Mr Tennessee get on just fine.
I’ve been in every kind of drinking den
But I couldn’t tell ye where or when for sure
All the empty bottles like fallen solders on the floor
I used to have a woman who was sweet on me
But some things in life.. arent meant to be
time can take its toll, as the years went by
Like the spirit in the bottle her love run dry..

Devil in My Wine

Devil in my Wine – written by G D Sweeney
There’s a devil in my wine
And he keeps telling me all kinds of lies
Keep giving in to his wicked sin
Sometimes I don’t know why.
There’s a monkey on my back
Can’t shake it off no matter what
I’ve just got myself to blame for it
Sometimes I don’t know why.
I’ll be fine mother doin time with all my demons here
And if I find sister, I got know wine mister
Then I’ll just stick to beer.
I’ll keep drinking all night long
One for sorrow and two for joy
Three for a girl who loves this boy
Sometimes I don’t know why
I’ll be fine mother doin time with all my demons here
And if I find sister, I got know wine mister
Then I’ll just stick to beer.
There’s a devil in my wine
And he keeps telling me all kinds of lies
Keep giving in to his wicked sin
Sometimes I don’t know why.

What's on her Mind?

What’s on her Mind? – written by G D Sweeney
It wasn’t so open and shut as you thought
The jury came back
But the verdict was not
One that you might have predicted or ever suspected
Harder to face than the burning sun
But there’s only one way when a thrill is gone
What your mind tries to say
Is not worth the paper it’s written on.
Under closer inspection
I might have noticed what was coming in my direction
When you kiss her goodbye
Does she pull to the side
So the truth she can hide in her eyes
Picking the moment to tell you
What’s on her mind
Going through motions and killing time
Both of you here at the scene of the crime
Like flowers in a vase
Crying out for water and sunlight
You slowly unravel
Your mind is a blaze
Harbouring thoughts of back in the day
But you’re a fool to yourself
If you think it’s gonna end any other way
Under closer inspection
I might have noticed what was coming in my direction
When you kiss her goodbye
Does she pull to the side
So the truth she can hide in her eyes
Picking the moment to tell you
What’s on her mind
What’s on her mind
What’s on her mind
When you kiss her goodbye
Does she pull to the side
So the truth she can hide in her eyes Picking the moment to tell you

A Little Piece of Home

A little Piece of Home – written by G D Sweeney
I couldn’t say what time it was but I knew that I was late
You could just tell by the look on the barman’s face
Sitting alone on the edge of my seat..i could hear my own heart beat
Drinking my beer, and chasing down whiskey neat.
I’m so far away but tonight I’m feeling so close
Cuz my hearts crying out for a little piece of home.
Without a word, or a sound woman sits down. She’s got jet black hair
And eyes you could drown in. She asked what took me here to this town and I said.
I came over here to earn a few pound and the days turned to years before I looked around
While my friends disappeared and all they settled down to wed.
Now life’s pretty good, I got a job with a suit and a house up on the hill
And the people here treat me like one of their own..but still!
When the days at it’s death and theres whiskey on my breath
I get a tear of regret, and I dream of that place and the promise I made when I left.
I’m so far away but tonight I’m feeling so close
Cuz my hearts crying out for a little piece of home.
Cuz I’m so far away and you remind me of someone I know
I’m scratching around for a little piece of home.
Now fate took it’s chance and I asked her to dance and she put down her drink and got close
She said…We’ve only just met… and you don’t know me yet… so here goes
You see I’m not from this town and i thought I’d come down and drown my sorrows in booze
cuz I’m far from my own and the place I call home just like you
I’m so far away but tonight won’t you hold me so close
and my hearts crying out for a little piece of home.
I’m so far away…but tonight I don’t feel alone
I feel like I’ve found a little piece of home.

Old Flames

Old Flames. – written by G D Sweeney
A photo of Rose, from her head to her toes
And a smile that could stop the rain
She was the picture of bliss
Til her marriage to Chris, meant 10 long years in vein.
I see an image of Jane…in the summer rain
As the water drips down her dress
She was the belle of the town
But life got her down and now she’s a bit of a mess.
Old names that ring a bell
Old flames that once burned bright
I won’t forget the girls I kissed
And never made my bride.
There’s a song I hear from time to time
That makes me think of Meg
She loved to sing and dance a jig
But the drink has taken her legs
Oh Julie dear, your heart was so pure
And thoughts of love, too much
Religion was her weakness
And she married to the church
Old names that ring a bell
Old flames that once burned bright
I won’t forget the girls I kissed
And never made my bride.
Sarah was the fairest brunette
You’ve ever seen up close
To my surprise now, she’s twice the size
But I’ll remember her, just how she was.
I held a candle for Mary Jane
It was an everlasting flame
But the fire blew out, in the middle of the night
When she called out some other guy’s name.
Old names that ring a bell
And Old flames that once burned bright
I won’t forget the girls I kissed and never made my bride.

Secrets and Lies

Secrets and Lies – written by G D Sweeney
In the middle of the night ..she cried out some others guys name
When the morning had arrived ..I said ..hey honey what’s your game
She said I don’t know why ..your worried ..my heart is yours for keeps
Buts theres something not right …When I heard her talking in her sleep.
Oh the Secrets and Lies. The fleeting moments that you share.
Undercover of the night..but you had better beware.
The truth burns like fire..and leaves a trail everywhere.
Someday the weight of your crimes…will get too heavy to bare.
I heard her talking on the phone.. to someone. I could hear it in her voice.
Speaking in hushed tones.. all quiet. Trying not to make much noise.
I asked her who was on the line? ..She said it was… a friend from outta town”
He was just ..dying to tell me.. about a girl that he’s just found.
Oh the Secrets and Lies. The fleeting moments that you share.
Under the cover of the night..but you had better beware.
The truth burns like fire..and leaves a trail everywhere.
Someday the weight of your crimes…will get too heavy to bare.
I found a letter last night.. that might just.. explain what’s goin on.
It was addressed to wife.. and it said “Honey it wont be long”
Til you are in my arms.. and we can.. start a brand new dawn.
So I guess I was right.. about one thing.. you.really done me wrong.
Oh the Secrets and Lies. The fleeting moments that you share.
Under the cover of the night..but you had better beware.
The truth burns like fire..and leaves a trail everywhere.
Someday the weight of your crimes…will get too heavy to bare.

Davy Jone’s Lock-In – written by G D Sweeney
You won’t be coming home tonight
You worked up a heavy appetite
You won’t be satisfied until this feeling dies
Nothing else will do
Until it’s got a hold over you
You’re like a train that’s going to crash
Temptation is getting all to much
The lights are turning red
But there’s something in your head
A switch to overload
The light s are on but nobody is home
His ship has run a ground
Compass madly spinning round
Captain nowhere to be found
He’s lost in heavy seas
Showers mainly good at first
Driven by a raging thirst
He drank until the clouds had burst their seams.
Hands slowly ticking on the clock
Here comes a little after shock
You had a lot of fun
But your race has all been run
You find a place to hide
He won’t be seen again for quite some time
His ship has run a ground
Compass madly spinning round
Captain nowhere to be found
He’s lost in heavy seas
Showers mainly good at first
Driven by a raging thirst
He drank until the clouds had burst their seams.
Davy Jone’s Lock in
Nobody could stop him
Sinking to the bottom of the sea.

Me and Mr Tennessee

Me and Mr Tennessee – Written By G D Sweeney
I never saw it comin though I knew there was something wrong ,the way she shifted in her seat
She didn’t even care to look me in the eye, when she told me that she was leaving me.
She even took the diamond ring that I bought and hocked it for a hundred bucks or so
told me that she never liked it anyway before she left me drinking on my own
Me and Mr Tennessee…the perfect drinking partner when you’re down
There’ll never be a better man to help you to forget in this whole town
Just me…and Mr Tennessee.. he’ll take the bitter taste of tears away
With every little swallow he’ll take away your sorrow and your pain
The barman saw… that I was out of luck.. and asked me who the lady was that left?
About an hour ago or so she used to be my wife.. but now she just some body that I met.
He said..i thought I recognized her face , she was in the bar about a week ago
I’m not a kiss and teller but ..she was with a fella and I thought you might like to know
Me and Mr Tennessee…the perfect drinking partner when you’re down
There’ll never be a better man to help you to forget in this whole town
Just me…and Mr Tennessee.. he’ll take the bitter taste of tears away
With every little swallow he’ll take away your sorrow and your pain
If I ever see the man who took away my wife, I wanna know what he’s got that i aint
I guess that he’s got… some bod y to share his love, while i ’ve got some bod y to share my pain.
So I called my woman on the telephone, I had to get a few things off my chest
I said I cant forgive ye.. but a friend of mine is helping me forget.

Bound For Glory

Bound for Glory – written by G D Sweeney
I heard you say don’t ever lay
your best hand down til it comes the day
You make your move, but if you lose,
there’s much at stake, and a price to pay
But this train is bound for glory
There’s no room for doubt
But this train is bound for glory
And it’s moving out
I might as well enjoy the ride
Coz we’re only here til the good Lord decides
What becomes of this sinning man
I lost my way but I found it again
I’ve seen every chance that luck could find
But now it’s lost to history and mind
I’m all fired up with my wheels of steel
My engine roars like a baby squeals
This train is bound for glory
There’s no room for doubt
But this train is bound for glory
And it’s moving out
This train is bound for glory
There’s no room for doubt
But this train is bound for glory
And it’s moving out

Country Moon

Country Moon – Written by G D Sweeney
County Moon.. never too far from my mind
When darkness comes..you’re the one still shining a light
Not a sound for miles around..nobody in sight
A guardian watch down from the skies
Country Moon I don’t know why I’m feelin
The way that I do whenever you shine your light
Country Moon This pull on my heart is heavy
And it..leads me to you everytime.
County Moon.. I thought I knew what made me smile
A city slave, I once craved, the constant grind
But now I’ve seen what it means when your’e swept away by the tide
That part of me that will always be searching for your light
Country Moon I don’t know why I’m feelin
The way that I do whenever you shine your light
Country Moon This pull on my heart is heavy
And it..leads me to you everytime.
All the promises I was hearing never brought me any nearer
All the dreams that I was chasing, got old and torn until they faded
And all this time I’m crying out for you…country moon
Country Moon I don’t know why I’m feelin
The way that I do whenever you shine your light
Country Moon This pull on my heart is heavy
And it..leads me to you everytime.
Country Moon I need you to help me decide
Your melody is calling me to make up my mind
The time has come to settle down, and leave this life behind
Country moon you’ve changed my tune, like the turning of the tide.
